Navigation

The site includes a skip-to-content link, a keyboard-operable navigation menu, visible focus styles, and a human-readable site map. On smaller screens, the menu button exposes the same core destinations as desktop navigation. Press Escape to close the open menu.

Motion

Use “Pause motion” in the footer or the interactive mining section to pause animation. The site respects a browser or operating-system preference for reduced motion. Decorative 3D content is not required to read an article, follow a link, or operate an audio player.

Audio and transcripts

Every audio field note includes a complete transcript on its episode page. Playback is initiated by the visitor, not automatically. Browser-native audio controls are provided for episodes and article companions, with direct MP3 download links on episode pages.

Text and layout

Pages adapt to narrow screens, images include explicit dimensions, and the article layout uses a single reading column on mobile. The site does not require a search box, registration form, or newsletter form to reach its content. Essential text is not embedded only in the featured images.
